The annual plan is the better deal on either tier if you know you'll keep the service — Standard works out to about $4.17/month paid annually versus $5.99/month, and Smart Bundle is worth the extra $30/year only if you'll actually use the four partner channels.

This is the part marketing pages don't mention. CuriosityStream's Standard annual plan has increased twice in under four years:

Before a 2022 price change, the standard annual plan ran about $19.99/year. In March 2023, CuriosityStream raised it to $39.99/year (and the monthly plan from $2.99 to $4.99) — effectively doubling the annual price in one move. As of this review in July 2026, the Standard annual plan is $49.99/year, another roughly 25% increase since 2023. Put together, that's about a 150% increase over roughly four years across two separate hikes.

None of that makes CuriosityStream expensive in absolute terms — $49.99/year is still cheap next to a year of Netflix or Max. But it does mean the current price is not a reliable anchor for what you'll pay long-term, and it's the single biggest reason this review can't call CuriosityStream's pricing "stable," even though it's affordable today.

Is CuriosityStream hard to cancel?

No. Per CuriosityStream's own help center, direct-billed subscribers cancel entirely self-service: open your Account page, go to Plan and Payment, select Manage Plan, then Cancel Plan — no phone call, no forced retention offer or survey. If you'd rather not cancel outright, direct monthly subscribers also have a pause option: you can suspend billing for 1, 2, or 3 months and your subscription resumes automatically afterward, or you can reactivate early anytime from your account.
