How to Cancel Netflix (and What Happens to Your Account)
Cancelling Netflix takes about a minute and there are no retention hoops. Here's the exact process — plus what to do if you're billed through Apple, Google, or your cable provider.

Netflix is one of the easiest major subscriptions to leave — which is exactly why it scores well on our Experience Index for exit ease.
How do you cancel Netflix?
- Sign in at netflix.com on a browser (the flow is cleanest on desktop).
- Open your Manage your membership page — your profile icon (top right) → Account.
- Click Cancel.
- Confirm with Finish Cancellation.
That's it. Netflix sends a confirmation email, and your plan stays active until the date your billing period ends. The same path works in the mobile app: My Netflix → menu → Account → Cancel membership → Finish Cancellation. Note that deleting the app or signing out does not stop billing — only finishing the cancellation does.
What if there's no Cancel button?
If there's no Cancel option in your account, you're billed through a third party — and Netflix can't cancel for you. Your account page will show who handles your payment (and usually a link to their cancellation page). You manage it where you signed up:
- Apple: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Netflix → Cancel Subscription.
- Google Play: Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Netflix → Cancel.
- Amazon / cable provider: cancel the Netflix channel or add-on in that account.
What happens to your profiles?
When you restart, your profiles, My List, viewing history, and payment details are all still there — Netflix's own words are "it's like you never canceled." That's convenient, but it's also why "I'll just cancel for a month" so often turns into resubscribing. If you want a clean break, that's fine too: you can delete your account information separately from your Netflix settings.
What does Netflix cost now if I come back?
Netflix raised prices across all U.S. tiers in March 2026, so the plan you left may be more expensive than you remember. Here's where the tiers stand:
| Plan | Monthly price | Streams at once | Max quality |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard with ads | about $8.99/month | 2 | 1080p (Full HD) |
| Standard (ad-free) | about $19.99/month | 2 | 1080p (Full HD) |
| Premium | about $26.99/month | 4 | 4K (Ultra HD) + HDR |
If you're leaving because of price rather than the catalog, dropping to the ad-supported tier is the cheaper alternative to cancelling outright — you change plans on the same Account page instead of clicking Cancel.
If you do decide to come back later, you can restart from the same place you cancelled:
